David Cuthill finished the last race of this seasons RDHGP 2009 in 5th. The race was held at Spa-Frachorchamps and here is his race report:
“Sitting on the grid in 5th with my foot firmly jammed between the clutch and brake to prevent rolling down the hill and I time it perfectly. I’m 3rd by the bottom of Eau Rouge and in 1st place when we reach Les Combes. Ben, Peter D and Jari are in close pursuit in the leading pack and they all have a nibble at me. For the first 5 laps, Ben put a lot of pressure on. Lap 7 and Peter D passes me in Les Combes but I take the place back down into Stavelot. Lap 13 and Ben is back on my case when I overshoot Les Combes onto the grass and have to let him through. With grass still on my tyres down to Pohoun, I have a wobble that lets Jari past and I’m now in 3rd. A great few laps with Peter D before we both head into the pits on lap 15 where it all starts to go wrong.
A Renault is pitted in front of my box and I have to approach at an angle and miss my mark. I then have to shuffle back and forward a number of times until I find the right spot, losing me about 15 seconds. I come out of the pits in 7th behind Knut as Peter D takes off up ahead. For some reason the car now feels horrible (probably all in my mind of course). I eventually get back up to 4th but on lap 22, I go too deep into La Source and clip the tyre wall, causing some damage. It was now a case of just keeping it as tidy as possible until the checkered flag, finishing in 5th place.
What a great season it’s been. Congratulations to Peter Gog for the top spot. Thanks to all the drivers involved and of course the newly titled ‘Sir’ Stuart Thompson for the great work you do in organising it all.”
DC ended the championship in a great 5th despite missing one race.
